Birdie Binge Recommendations
The One and Only Dick Gregory
This Showtime documentary, directed by Andre Gains, shares the life and activism of legendary comic, Dick Gregory. Produced by Kevin Hart and Lena Waithe, it’s clear that the modern-day stars are paying homage to a man who paved the way for them in comedy. Hart sums up Gregory’s mission: “He wanted to be a part of the change, and he always fought for that change.” Dick Gregory made this impact on the world, by telling the truth through humor. The incredible comedian’s life story premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and is now streaming on multiple platforms. Birdie team member, Maddie, thinks you should give it a watch!
Available on Showtime, Hulu, and Amazon Prime

If you’re looking for a binge recommendation that withstands the test of time, then ER is your next tv series. This is the Chicago-based, medical drama that skyrocketed George Clooney and Julianne Marguiles to fame. You’ll fall in love with this cast of characters. The fifteen-season NBC show paved the way for many more of it’s kind in recent years, like New Amsterdam and Grey’s Anatomy. Do yourself a favor, and watch this classic.

If you liked ER, the watch The West Wing
This three-part Netflix original follows the story of 4 time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka. At just 23 years old, Osaka is the first (and only) Asian player to be ranked number 1 in tennis. But much of this series explores the daily life and challenges that come with being a professional athlete. Naomi Osaka shows first-hand the mental health challenges, which led to the player withdrawing from two major tournaments this year. It’s a must-watch for all sports fans.
Available on Netflix
If you liked Naomi Osaka, then stream Venus and Serena.
Calling all Tom Hiddleston fans! The new Marvel series, Loki, is now available to stream. This show takes place after Avengers: End Game and follows the ‘God of Mischief’ through eight episodes of pure adventure. Owen Wilson joins this incredible cast as Mobius M. Mobius, a hard-boiled detective who specializes in particularly dangerous criminals. The two lead actors’ playful banter offset the suspenseful, time-bending series of the Marvel-Verse in the best possible way.
Available on Disney+

The Umbrella Academy
If you’re a fan of quirky, action comedies, then add The Umbrella Academy to your Netflix queue. Starring Elliot Page, this series follows a group of estranged siblings who were all born unexpectedly to 43 mothers — none of whom knew they were pregnant. Needless to say, this odd family must save the world. The show is based on graphic novels by Gerard Way, singer-songwriter of My Chemical Romance.
