Frequently Asked Questions

Activity

What is my Activity?

Your Activity feed shows all of the … you guessed it … activity from your Flock, the people you’re following. This includes when someone from your Flock follows someone new, when they add a Chirp, or mark a show or movie as something they want to watch. If you have a private profile you’ll see follow requests here.

How do I see what my friends have watched and want to watch?

There are several places to see this!
  • “Activity” in the navigation has a running list of what your Flock has watched, wants to watch, and who they’re following.
  • “My Flock” in the navigation and search for a specific person, then on their Profile. From there you’ll have the option to click on their Chirps, To Watch list, or all of their shows.
  • “Browse Chirps” from the Home page or Navigation and then the “Following” tab, and same steps from the Profile.

General

What is a Birdie?

A Birdie is anyone using our site! Just a playful term for the wonderful members of our community.

Why is it called Birdie?

So glad you asked. The name Birdie is actually a really important part of our mission. It comes from the saying “a little birdie told me…” which in essence is expressing that you were made aware of something (possibly secret and special) from a trusted source. Birdie, our site, is centered on the belief that word of mouth, is much more powerful than the recommendations of strangers or a fancy algorithm. Our mission is to help our users make quick decisions – and the best way to do that is harnessing the power of all the little birdies in their world.

Do I need to create an account to use this site?

Yes, you need to create an account to use the site.

How do I join Birdie?

Currently, Birdie is invite only. You can join by snagging an invite code from a user or join the waitlist and we’ll let you know once we’re open for business.

My Account

How do I update my profile?

Go to your Profile (your picture at the top right) and click the “Edit Profile” button. From there you will be on your info tab and can update your name, bio, and profile picture. You can also click over to the Settings tab to update your location, privacy settings, email, and password. Once you’ve made any updates don’t forget to press “Save”.

Can I connect my social media accounts to more easily find my Flock?

You betcha! From your Profile click on the icon for whichever channel you’d like to connect – Facebook, Instagram, etc – and once you’re taken through an “authorization flow” (I know – we fancy!!) – we’ll check if anyone you’re connected to is on Birdie. If so you can add them to your Flock. And now that you’ve connected these accounts when friends join in the future you’ll all be notified and can follow one another.

How do I change my profile picture?

Go to your Profile (your picture at the top right) and click the “Edit Profile” button. When you get to Settings click on “Choose File”. Select a fantabulous picture of yourself (preferably square since that’s how it renders and we don’t have cropping functionality just yet – sorry!) and then don’t forget to press “Save”.

Can I control who sees my content?

You can do this by changing your profile type to a private profile in the Setting section of your Profile. By turning the private profile feature on, the only people who can see your content are those who you accept via request.

What is a private vs. public profile?

All Birdie profiles default to Public – where anyone who has a Birdie account can see your Profile. Chirps, etc. You can change to a Private account where the only people who can see these details are those you have approved. You’ll receive a notification in Activity showing this request – which you can accept or decline.

How do I become a Super Birdie?

Once you add 25 Chirps, you become a Super Birdie – woohoo! Not only do you get a cool feather next to your name – which signals to the community you’re helping by contributing to Birdie (which is crazy important), but you also unlock your personal invite code.

My Flock and Chirps

What is a Chirp?

A Chirp is your quick, to-the-point way of letting others know what you think about a show or movie. It can be just a star rating or you can write a novel. We do call them Chirps for a reason – Birdie is about saving people time so we encourage you to keep ’em short and sweet. No more deciphering sarcasm or checking credentials on a stranger’s profile. When written by someone you trust a single word can do the trick (i.e. “Amazing!” or “Avoid!”)

How do I add a Chirp?

Simply click on a show or movie from the Home page or Activity, or search for one you’d like to Chirp about, go to its page, share what you thought in the text box, click on a star rating, press Save and voila – you’ve Chirped!

How to I edit or delete a Chirp?

You can edit or delete any Chirp with a few clicks. Simply click on “edit” on the bottom right corner of your Chirp. From there you can delete the text altogther or adjust the rating. Once you’ve made any changes, click the “update” button and your new and improved Chirp (or removal of) is all set!

What happens when I follow people?

When you follow people, you will be able to see their activity under the “Activity” tab. This will help you to keep track of what your Flock has watched and plans to watch.

What is a Flock?

Your Flock is made up of the accounts you have chosen to follow.

How do I add to my Flock?

If you know of a specific person to add to your Flock click on “My Flock” from the upper navigation, then click on “Find Your Flock”. (embed for quick solve), and search using their name. You can also check out Suggested Birdies within “My Flock” – there might be some fun accounts to follow there! Wherever you find someone just click on the “Follow” button next to their name. Lastly, we highly recommend connecting your social media accounts to Birdie. Then if any of your friends from those networks are on Birdie they’ll show up within “Find Your Flock” when you click on the social icons.

How does Birdie recommend things for me?

Sorry to be difficult but Birdie doesn’t actually recommend anything. Birdie is just a way to find recommendations from those you trust, your Flock. No fancy algorithms – just simple third grade math.

How do I see what my friends have watched and want to watch?

There are several places to see this!

  • “Activity” in the navigation has a running list of what your Flock has watched, wants to watch, and who they’re following.

Will I receive an invite code to share with others?

Birdie is currently in what we call private beta – which means you need an invite code to join. And we only want people to join once they have been invited by a contributor – that’s the whole point of Birdie – recommendations from people you trust. In order to invite your friends and family you have to be a contributor so they have something to see when they join. Add 25 Chirps, become a Super Birdie – and unlock your own personal invite code to start building your Flock! What if I don’t know what I want to watch?

Ah – you came to the right place, this is the power of Birdie. There are several ways to find the next great thing to watch. You can:

  • look at the Activity view to see what your Flock has been up to
